During a recent talk show, MEP Gheorghe Piperea expressed concerns about rising property taxes potentially forcing vulnerable citizens to sell their homes or face foreclosure. He highlighted that Romania has a significantly higher homeownership rate compared to other European countries. Piperea warned that without urgent measures, local taxes could increase dramatically, affecting both individuals and businesses. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare indicated that while he does not wish to introduce new taxes, he cannot rule out tax increases in 2027 to ensure budget sustainability. He confirmed that property taxation based on market value will not be implemented next year, alleviating some immediate concerns.
