Russia plans to export grain via the Ochamchire base in occupied Abkhazia, with Turkey as the first beneficiary. The logistics operator Modern Way has proposed using this base for container transport of grain, which is typically shipped in bulk carriers. The port has limited capacity, and container transport is costly and time-consuming. Despite Russia's significant share in global wheat trade, Ukrainian attacks have disrupted traditional export routes. Alternative transport routes within Russia have not met volume needs. The container port at Ochamchire was completed last year and is set to begin shipments to Turkey's Gebze, with quality control services expected to be operational soon.
