Microsoft announced a voluntary departure package for around 60,000 employees, over a quarter of its global workforce, to cut costs and fund AI investments. The program targets employees in various divisions, excluding marketing and security. It is available to eligible staff in Canada, India, the UK, and the US. HR director Amy Coleman stated this option supports employees considering leaving the company. Microsoft is investing heavily in AI infrastructure, raising investor concerns about profitability. As of June 30, 2026, the company had 223,000 full-time employees, with shares up about 10% this year.
