The Black Sea has become the world's most dangerous maritime route, surpassing the Strait of Hormuz, due to intensified conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Attacks on commercial vessels have surged, with over 570 incidents reported this year, resulting in numerous casualties. Shipping companies are increasingly reluctant to operate in the region due to heightened risks and lower profit margins. Russia is responsible for the majority of recent attacks, targeting foreign vessels to disrupt Ukraine's economy. The conflict's impact extends beyond Ukraine, severely affecting agricultural exports and prompting calls for increased NATO support in the region.
