French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that the psychiatric issues of the suspect in the recent shooting near Paris do not alter the terrorist and racist nature of the act. The shooting, which occurred on October 23, resulted in one death and five injuries, including a 12-year-old girl. The suspect, Kévin T., opened fire from his vehicle, targeting individuals with African or Maghrebian backgrounds. Despite the suspect's mental health evaluation leading to a suspension of his hearings, Nuñez emphasized that this does not diminish the seriousness of the crime. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case, and the suspect has a history of schizophrenia and substance use. The victim's family expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the suspect's mental health issues, raising concerns about the suspect's prior known history with law enforcement.
