The consolidated general budget deficit reached 78.3 billion lei, or 3.81% of GDP, in the first nine months of 2026, down from 5.31% in 2025. Budget revenues increased by 11.9%, while expenditures rose by 5.5%, with investments exceeding 107 billion lei. The reduction in the deficit reflects a positive trend in fiscal consolidation, according to the Ministry of Finance. Total revenues amounted to 522.69 billion lei, driven by significant increases in VAT and income tax collections. Expenditures reached 601 billion lei, with notable increases in social assistance and interest payments. Investment spending saw a substantial rise, largely funded by European Union sources.
