Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare responded to PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu's claims about a rising budget deficit, presenting data showing a decrease in the deficit by 1.5 percentage points of GDP in the first nine months of 2026. Nazare highlighted that budget revenues increased by 11.9%, while expenditures rose by only 5.5%, contributing to the deficit reduction. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high public investments, which reached 107.77 billion lei, and noted that European funds played a crucial role in supporting these investments. Despite positive trends, Nazare warned that Romania still has the highest budget deficit in the EU, necessitating continued fiscal consolidation to ensure sustainable economic growth.
