Starting November 1, 2026, the EU will implement a new processing fee of €2 for online orders from outside the EU. This fee is in addition to the existing €3 charge for small packages introduced in July, aimed at curbing the influx of products from China via platforms like Shein and Aliexpress. The processing fee will be reviewed every two years based on customs control costs. Each category of items in a package will incur a separate fee, and while platforms are responsible for payment, they may increase prices for consumers. The EU aims to enhance customs checks due to the rising number of packages from Asia, which complicates the detection of dangerous or counterfeit goods. Additionally, starting July 1, 2028, lower fees will be introduced for packages passing through specialized warehouses, and the €3 fee for small packages will be removed.
