Romania's consolidated budget deficit decreased significantly in the first nine months of 2026, reaching 78.3 billion lei, or 3.81% of GDP. This marks a reduction from 102.47 billion lei (5.31% of GDP) in the same period last year. The Finance Minister emphasized the need for sustainable financial management and discipline. Budget revenues rose by 11.9%, outpacing a 5.5% increase in expenditures. Personnel costs fell, while public investments surged. Despite these improvements, structural economic imbalances remain a concern, especially looking towards the last quarter of the year. Various financial agencies have differing projections for the year's budget deficit, with estimates ranging from 5.8% to 6.25% of GDP.
