New images of the Poiana tunnel portal, the longest on Romania's A1 highway, have been shared by infrastructure enthusiasts. This tunnel will be the first in Romania to be excavated using a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), similar to metro construction. The TBM's head, weighing 131 tons and measuring 6 meters in diameter, has arrived at the site for assembly. Over 100 oversized transport shipments will follow to complete the TBM setup, which will bore the 1,780-meter tunnel. Currently, the physical progress of section 3 of the A1 highway stands at 18.89%. Work is ongoing on various structures and earthworks, with the project contracted to a consortium including Astaldi/WeBuild and Tancrad.
