Navigational difficulties persist on the Danube's three branches due to low water levels, particularly affecting the Chilia branch. Experienced captain Vali Moldoveanu highlighted the need for dredging to address problematic shallows. The situation is exacerbated by narrow navigable channels on the Sulina branch, complicating maritime traffic. Moldoveanu noted that the current water levels are the lowest he has seen since 1988, and improvements depend on upstream rainfall. Historical efforts to enhance navigation on the Sulina branch have significantly increased cargo transport since the 19th century.
