Saint Dumitru's celebration on October 26 marks the beginning of the pastoral winter, concluding agreements between shepherds and flock owners. Traditions include rituals for household protection and weather predictions. Known as "Focul lui Sâmedru," a symbolic fire is lit the night before for purification. Saint Dumitru, distinct from Saint Cuvios Dimitrie, is honored for his martyrdom and faith. His iconography often depicts him in military attire. The name "Sâmedru" derives from the Latin "Sanctus Demetrius." The holiday signifies the transition from summer to winter in pastoral life, with various customs surrounding it, including the sharing of food around the fire. Additionally, it marks the end of agreements and debts in rural communities, emphasizing its practical role in agricultural life.
