The Minister of Education, Sorin Costreie, expressed concern over the decreasing age of youth violence following a knife attack by a 13-year-old student in Bistrita. He emphasized the need for initiatives to protect teachers and students, aiming to restore trust in the educational system. Costreie highlighted the premeditated nature of the attack and praised the quick response of school staff. He also referenced a separate case in Timiș involving the murder of a friend by teenagers, indicating a trend of radicalization among youth. The minister is working on a government initiative to enhance safety in schools, proposing stricter penalties for attacks on teachers and a clearer definition of the roles of students and teachers. He criticized the current educational system for focusing on test performance rather than fostering critical thinking and genuine learning, stressing the importance of empathy and humanity in education.
