In the Jina Mountains, the tradition of transhumance is fading as fewer shepherds continue the practice. Many have chosen to stay close to family, while the younger generation shows little interest in following in their footsteps. Mitică Lupescu and Dumitru Iancu reflect on their past experiences, recalling the vibrant life once present in the mountains. Today, empty shepherd huts and cultivated lands symbolize the decline of this way of life. Although transhumance was recognized by UNESCO in 2023, the lifestyle is still at risk as modern conveniences replace traditional practices. The future of this heritage remains uncertain as fewer young people are willing to embrace the demanding life of a shepherd.
