Brazilians began voting in the presidential runoff between incumbent leftist President Lula and conservative Senator Flavio Bolsonaro. Nearly 160 million voters are participating in this election, which occurs amid a rise of right-wing victories in the region. Bolsonaro, 45, emerged as a surprise frontrunner in the first round with 47% of the votes, while Lula, nearing 81, followed closely with 45%. Polls indicate a tight race, with both candidates nearly tied ahead of the election. A recent survey shows Bolsonaro leading Lula by 1.3 points.
