Kapellbrücke, the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe, spans the Reuss River in Lucerne, Switzerland, for nearly 700 years. Built in the 14th century, it connects the city’s theater to St. Peter's Chapel. The nearby Wasserturm, older than the bridge, has served various purposes over the centuries. Inside the bridge, 17th-century paintings depict the city's history. A fire in 1993 destroyed much of the bridge, but it was reconstructed and reopened in 1994, with only a few original paintings restored.
