The new Western Sydney International Airport has officially opened, welcoming its first passengers after extensive planning and construction. Located in Badgerys Creek, it will operate 24/7, catering to a growing metropolitan area. This airport marks Australia's first major new airport in over 50 years, significantly enhancing flight scheduling options compared to the existing Sydney airport. Jetstar operated the inaugural flight to Gold Coast, and the airport has a capacity for over 80 million passenger movements annually. Cargo flights began earlier in July, with the airport built on land acquired by the federal government in the 1980s.
