The first component of the TBM for the Poiana tunnel on the Sibiu-Pitești highway has arrived, but boring will start only after all parts are assembled. Over 100 transports are needed for the equipment, with assembly expected to take three months. The TBM's cutter head, weighing 131 tons, was delivered recently, navigating various road types, including unpaved ones. DRDP Craiova clarified that not all transports are oversized, allowing for multiple components to arrive simultaneously. The Poiana tunnel will be the longest on the highway, measuring approximately 1,780 meters, and will utilize TBM technology for excavation. The project is part of a larger section expected to be completed by November 2027, with potential delays pushing the opening to 2028.
