A new law allows Romanian households to produce up to 200 liters of traditional alcoholic beverages annually without paying excise duties, provided these are not for sale. This regulation, part of Law no. 204, modifies the Fiscal Code and applies to households registered in the agricultural registry. The law was reexamined after concerns about its alignment with EU regulations, but ultimately maintained the 200-liter limit. Households must keep records of their production, and the law does not authorize the sale of these beverages. The law takes effect three days after its publication on October 22, 2026.
