A man and a woman from Bucharest are accused of kidnapping two newborns from an Indonesian woman and holding them captive for 24 days. The incidents occurred last year in Romania and Italy. The couple signed plea agreements for illegal deprivation of liberty. In July 2025, they invited the Indonesian woman to help with household chores, but when she became pregnant with twins, they attempted to convince her to give them the children. Authorities began investigating after the woman was moved to a social assistance center. The couple manipulated her into fleeing to Romania, where they took the babies under false pretenses. They were found by police on July 25, 2026, and the infants were returned to their mother. The plea agreements are pending approval by the court.
