The first component of the tunnel boring machine for the Poiana tunnel on the Sibiu-Pitești highway has arrived at the construction site. The 6-meter diameter, 131-ton head was transported from Călărași and will be assembled for tunneling. Over 100 oversized transports will follow for the complete assembly. The Poiana tunnel will be 1,780 meters long and is set to be the first highway tunnel in Romania using this technology. The construction of Section 3 is ongoing, with 18.89% completion reported. This highway project is crucial for connecting Sibiu to Bucharest and alleviating heavy traffic on the DN7 road.
