The Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, stated that the new salary law's adoption is contingent on budget decisions and Romania's commitments to control the deficit. He indicated that it cannot be adopted in the next couple of months due to various objective reasons. The law is projected for 2027, with potential approval next year and implementation in 2028. However, this timeline is not fixed, as the government must address urgent issues first. Manole emphasized the need for prudence regarding salary expenditure, which is projected at 166 billion lei for 2026 and 174 billion lei for 2027. Additionally, pension indexing is set to resume in 2027, aiming to maintain retirees' purchasing power while adhering to fiscal sustainability.
