Ukrainian legislation now requires approval from the Ministry of Education in Kyiv to close Romanian-language schools. Oksana Sacriier, the deputy governor of Chernivtsi, announced this during a press conference, highlighting changes in the education system, including the transition to 12 grades. Approximately 25% of the planned 69 academic high schools in Chernivtsi will teach in Romanian. The new law aligns with Ukraine's European integration goals and aims to improve educational standards. Sacriier noted that the number of gymnasiums remains unchanged, and there are ongoing efforts to enhance funding for Romanian-language education. The reforms also emphasize the need for bilingual documentation and qualified staff in minority language schools.
