In the first nine months of 2026, Romanian police seized approximately 70 million cigarettes and 9.8 tons of tobacco in anti-smuggling operations. They imposed over 1,100 fines totaling more than 8 million lei. A total of 372 coordinated actions led to 541 criminal cases and investigations involving 765 individuals. Authorities dismantled 16 criminal groups linked to tobacco smuggling and reported 704 offenses under various laws.
