Eighty-five years ago, the Romanian Army executed a brutal massacre in Odessa, targeting local Jews after the death of Romanian and German officers. Following an explosion at military headquarters, the authorities, under Marshal Ion Antonescu's orders, retaliated against the Jewish population, leading to thousands being hanged, shot, or burned alive. The massacre began on October 22, 1941, with a decree mandating the execution of 200 locals for each fallen officer. Civilians were rounded up and transported to execution sites, where many were killed en masse. This tragic event highlights the severe consequences of wartime reprisals and the atrocities committed against innocent people during the Holocaust.
