In September 2026, nearly 886,000 Romanian pensioners received social allowances to supplement their incomes up to 1,281 lei. The number of beneficiaries increased compared to August, with average supplements exceeding 600 lei in some counties. The National House of Public Pensions reported that 885,745 individuals received this aid, with the majority coming from the public pension system. The social allowance covers the difference between a pensioner's income and the minimum guaranteed amount. The highest average supplements were noted in Maramureș, Hunedoara, and Cluj. In the agricultural pension system, 35,736 individuals received lower average supplements. Eligibility for the allowance is based on income levels below the minimum threshold, which remains unchanged since January 2024.
