A bicorn hat, believed to have belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte, was auctioned in Lyon for €350,000, despite the authenticity of its connection to him being unproven. The hat is said to have been retrieved from the battlefield of Waterloo in 1815 by a Dutch captain fighting alongside the British. Only 19 of the 120 hats Napoleon owned are known to have survived. The hat was auctioned on June 18, 2018, marking 203 years since the battle, and was sold for significantly more than its estimated value of €30,000 to €40,000. The buyer's identity remains undisclosed, but the hat's historical significance contributed to its high auction price.
