MPI Magnesium is considering significantly reducing its magnesium extraction area in Rășinari from 915 hectares to under 100 hectares. This decision follows local authorities' concerns about the large licensed area. Company director Andrei Degeratu stated that discussions with local officials have taken place regarding this potential reduction. The actual mining site is expected to cover around seven hectares, while the larger area represents the licensed perimeter. The project has faced local protests, and a referendum is scheduled for November 8 to gauge community opinion on mining activities.
