The Danube River is at historic lows, prompting temporary measures to increase water discharge from the Iezer reservoir to maintain necessary levels for nuclear energy production. The National Administration "Apele Române" (ANAR) announced operational actions to address severe hydrological conditions. Currently, Danube inflows are below 1,200 mc/s, with water levels near critical limits for cooling the Cernavodă nuclear plant. ANAR has ordered a temporary increase of 20 mc/s in discharge from the Iezer reservoir from October 10-18, 2026, while ensuring over 40 million mc of water remains in reserve. These measures are coordinated with other water sources to optimize efficiency and are communicated to relevant authorities, emphasizing the national interest in securing water resources for safe nuclear operations.
