Moderna and Merck announced that their mRNA cancer vaccine, combined with Merck's immunotherapy, reduced the risk of death or recurrence in melanoma patients by 42%. Following the announcement, Moderna's stock initially surged but later fell over 17% after detailed study results were released. The phase 3 trial involved over 1,100 patients and showed a 38% reduction in cancer spread risk. The vaccine, named Intismeran, is designed to work alongside Keytruda, a leading immunotherapy. The companies plan to seek U.S. approval for the treatment, aiming for a 2027 launch. Results will be presented at an oncology congress in Madrid.
