A 7-magnitude earthquake struck Tibet, resulting in 16 fatalities and 76 injuries. The quake was caused by the collision of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. The epicenter was located in Baqen County, 400 km northeast of Lhasa. Emergency measures were implemented, with rescue teams deployed and 65 injured individuals rescued, 11 critically. Power outages occurred, and 339 homes collapsed, displacing 12,400 people. Landslides hindered access for rescue operations. Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for urgent rescue efforts and medical care for the injured, with the government allocating 50 million yuan for relief. Tibet is prone to severe earthquakes, with a recent quake in 2023 causing 120 deaths in Gansu province.
