Historians have reconstructed the marriage customs of the Geto-Dacians based on ancient Greek and Roman accounts. A key aspect was the purchase of the bride, where the groom or his father negotiated a price with the bride's family. This payment was not merely a transaction but a compensation for the family's loss of labor. Young women were presented at public gatherings for evaluation by men, with wealthier suitors paying more for attractive brides. Polygamy was practiced among the nobility, allowing wealthy men to marry multiple women. The betrothal ritual included symbolic gifts and a feast to strengthen family ties.
