Romanian Prime Minister Luca Niculescu appointed Dan Cărbunaru as the new government spokesperson on October 23. Cărbunaru previously served in the same role under Nicolae Ciucă from December 2021 to June 2023 and is also the director of the online publication Calea Europeană. He has a background in law and has completed courses at the National Defense College and the National Intelligence Academy. Cărbunaru began his journalism career at Mediafax and has worked for Adevărul and Gândul. His previous role as director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Internal Affairs was controversial due to the lack of a competitive selection process.
