Michel Gierling, known as "Nea Miș," is one of the last six Saxons living in Stejărișu, Romania. He holds the keys to the 14th-century Saxon church and shares its history with visitors. The village was relocated over 700 years ago due to flooding, moving two kilometers to a higher ground. Nea Miș reminisces about his time in the village's brass band and his brief emigration to Germany in 1990, where he witnessed the struggles of fellow emigrants. The fortified church features a defensive gallery and a black flag from 1911, symbolizing a tragic love story. He also shares a traditional recipe for smoked bacon, a local specialty.
