A Maltese-flagged tanker carrying 40,000 tons of Russian diesel is heading to New York, marking the first shipment after a recent agreement between Putin and Trump. Trump aims to lower diesel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections by easing sanctions and threatening export restrictions. The tanker "Agioi Fanendes" loaded the diesel in Primorsk and is expected to arrive in the U.S. on November 7. Russia has lifted its self-imposed ban on diesel exports, planning to increase shipments significantly. Since the EU's embargo on Russian oil products in February 2023, Russia has primarily exported diesel to Brazil, Turkey, and some African nations.
