Microsoft has introduced an AI system capable of analyzing complex medical cases by mimicking a doctor's investigative process. Named Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO), it asks questions, requests tests, and adjusts diagnoses based on new information. Unlike traditional AI systems that evaluate cases with simultaneous symptoms and results, MAI-DxO identifies critical questions about a patient's medical history and determines necessary investigations. In tests, the AI achieved an accuracy of about 83% in diagnosing complex cases, outperforming general practitioners who had access to resources. The system also aims to reduce investigation costs while maintaining diagnostic accuracy. Future research will assess its effectiveness in real clinical settings, particularly in emergency triage.
