A Microsoft AI system has outperformed general practitioners in diagnosing complex medical cases, achieving an accuracy of 83% compared to 36% for doctors. The AI, named MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO), mimics the diagnostic process by asking relevant questions and determining necessary tests step-by-step. It has also shown potential to reduce diagnostic costs by selecting appropriate investigations. However, the study's results were obtained under controlled conditions and do not imply that AI can replace doctors. Microsoft is collaborating with a medical center to explore the technology's application in emergency triage.
