Police captured over 4.4 million untaxed cigarettes in Cugir during a sting operation, dismantling a criminal group involved in cigarette smuggling. The group, formed in July 2025 in Orăștie, operated in a pyramid structure with members responsible for supply and distribution. They used established meeting points and covert communication methods to conduct their illegal activities. On October 20, 2026, three individuals were caught loading contraband cigarettes into vehicles. Two were placed under preventive arrest, while one is under judicial control. The investigation is supported by the Alba County Police Inspectorate, and all suspects retain their legal rights and presumption of innocence.
