Only 11,000 children from the Romanian Diaspora are learning Romanian in schools abroad, while teachers are paid €30 per hour. There are between 800,000 and 1 million children under 18 with at least one Romanian parent living outside Romania. Many of these children attend local schools and may forget or not learn their native language. The Romanian Language Institute organizes courses in Romanian language, culture, and civilization for about 10,500 to 11,000 children annually in eight countries. Currently, 104 teachers are collaborating to teach these courses, with a pay rate of €30.5 per hour, after tax deductions. Romanian language courses are also offered at universities abroad, with 59 lecturer positions planned for the 2026-2027 academic year.
