Romanian citizens will soon be able to save for retirement through tax-free investment accounts, following the recent legislation. The new savings and investment accounts, designed to encourage long-term savings, are pending regulatory approval from the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF). These accounts will allow individuals to invest in the stock market with specific tax benefits, although they are not private pensions. There are two types of accounts, each with different tax treatments, and individuals must choose one type upon opening the account. Contributions to these accounts can be deducted from taxable income, and the income generated within the accounts will be tax-exempt. The ASF has 90 days to issue the necessary regulations for these accounts to become operational.
