The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) clarified that the European Court of Human Rights (CEDO) decision and its own case against the Government address different legal issues. The ÎCCJ emphasized that the CEDO ruling should be viewed in its entirety and does not validate or invalidate its claims against the Romanian authorities. The court highlighted the obligation of the state to adhere to its own regulations regarding payment schedules. It stated that while the state can determine how and when to pay its debts, it must follow the rules it has established. The CEDO ruling rejected complaints from six Romanian judges regarding delayed salary payments, affirming that the government's actions did not violate their rights. This situation is part of a broader dispute over unpaid salary rights for judges, involving the ÎCCJ in a separate litigation with the Government.
