The first component of the TBM for the longest tunnel on the A1 Sibiu-Pitești highway has arrived in Poiana. The 6-meter diameter, 131-ton boring head was transported from Călărași and will be assembled on site. Over 100 oversized transports will follow, with the TBM configured to a final diameter of 12.5 meters. Once assembled, it will begin boring the 1,780-meter Poiana tunnel, the first highway tunnel in Romania using this technology. As of October 6, the physical progress of section 3 has reached 18.89%, with ongoing work on the tunnel and other structures.
