The High Court of Cassation and Justice has initiated the trial of MEP Diana Şoşoacă, accused of illegally detaining an Italian journalist. The court rejected the defendant's requests and confirmed the legality of the prosecution's evidence. Şoşoacă faces four charges of unlawful deprivation of liberty, alongside her ex-husband, who is also charged with similar offenses and assault. The case stems from an incident in December 2021, where the journalist was allegedly held against her will during an interview. The prosecution noted that the detention was prompted by dissatisfaction with the journalist's questions. At the time of the incident, Şoşoacă was a senator, and parliamentary immunity has since been lifted for this case.
