The UK has commenced large-caliber weapon manufacturing for the first time in two decades to enhance its defense capabilities amid rising security threats. Rheinmetall UK is producing 120mm and 155mm weapon systems at its Telford facility, creating 100 skilled jobs. Finance Minister John Healey aims for the defense industry to aid in the UK's reindustrialization. The Telford unit reached full production capacity in eight months, although some projects face delays due to uncertainties about increasing defense spending to 3% of GDP, a key step towards NATO's 3.5% target by 2035. This development follows a new defense cooperation agreement between the UK and Germany in 2024.
