The first dam in Romania, Pojarna, has been demolished to restore the natural flow of the Doamna River and facilitate fish migration. This project, supported by Aqua Crisius and the Open Rivers Programme, aims to enhance aquatic ecosystems by removing barriers that hinder sediment transport. The demolition, completed in September 2026, reconnects 13.1 kilometers of river. Additionally, materials from the dam have been repurposed into a monument honoring the local history of timber floating.
