The High Court of Cassation and Justice has initiated the trial of MEP Diana Șoșoacă, accused of illegally detaining an Italian journalist. The court rejected the defendant's exceptions and confirmed the legality of the prosecution's evidence. Șoșoacă faces four charges of illegal deprivation of liberty, alongside her ex-husband, who is also charged with violence. The case stems from an incident in December 2021, where the journalist was allegedly held against her will during an interview. The prosecution noted that the detention was prompted by dissatisfaction with the journalist's questions. The European Parliament lifted Șoșoacă's immunity for this case, while other accusations related to propaganda are being investigated separately.
