The controlled demolition of the building on Vicina Street is ongoing, following an explosion on October 17, 2025, which resulted in four fatalities and numerous injuries. The municipality described the operation as a first in Romania due to its complexity and the fragile state of the building. Workers are using specialized equipment to safely remove parts of the structure, while previous assessments of nearby apartments revealed significant damage. The investigation into the explosion initially considered gas accumulation as a cause, but later suggested a short circuit may have triggered it.
