The Shamonda virus has been detected in a human for the first time in France, following its emergence in Europe this summer. A severely ill patient in Lyon died after contracting the virus, previously thought non-transmissible to humans. Initial investigations suggest that complications observed in the patient were likely linked to the infection. Although the virus has circulated in Africa and Asia for decades, this is the first documented human case. Experts believe rising temperatures in Europe may have facilitated its introduction. Currently, there are no vaccines or antiviral treatments available, but authorities state there is no general health risk to the population.
