Russia continues to sell gold reserves to cover a growing budget deficit, with a significant drop in reserves reported. In September alone, 6.2 tons of gold were sold, marking the tenth consecutive month of sales. The Central Bank's reserves have decreased to their lowest level since 2019, with a total decline of 62 tons since December. This trend mirrors past financial crises, and the sales are partly driven by reduced oil and gas revenues. A notable portion of the sold gold is being exported to China, which has significantly increased its purchases from Russia this year.
