The local administration of Prejmer is under scrutiny by the Romanian Court of Accounts for mismanagement of public funds regarding salaries and allowances. An audit revealed significant legal violations, including inflated salaries for the mayor and deputy mayor based on incorrect population data, leading to illegal payments exceeding 323,000 lei. Local councilors also received unjustified payments due to the inflated salary base, totaling over 168,000 lei, with some councilors being paid without fulfilling attendance requirements. Additionally, eight municipal employees exceeded legal salary caps, resulting in nearly 378,000 lei in undue payments. The audit highlighted a lack of updated regulations and preventive financial controls. The Prejmer administration accepted the audit findings and proposed a remediation plan.
